Projects, Interests, and Journeys

If I wanted to sell you  something I would call these “Courses & Mini-Courses” but …
well, these categories are more organized than Blog entries.

I love an explorative approach to so many different crafts; here are woodworking thoughts, my lifestyle approach to exercise and eating, and a thousands other interests.

15th - 16th Century Renaissance related Performance

For the last 25 years I've spent most of my time 600 years in the past, the 15th-16th Century. The Italian, European, and English Renaissance Era (Renaissance Faires) pretending to be a crown prince masquerading as a magician. Great fun, great people.
My approach revolves around knowing and adapting the history & culture of that era -- much more than taking a modern outdoor act, changing costumes, and treating the event as a farmers or street fair in drag.

Making Sawdust

I love working with wood but lack the discipline to do fine woodworking. I'd rather make something that works and needs refinement. This kind of woodworking is best thought as therapy with the end result being lots of sawdust and a few finished products. Building a prototype in wood also involves other materials so the pastime covers tools, equipment, techniques, and "craft" across many subjects.

Current project notebook

This is a place to put notes about projects. One project is 3:00 (three minute or 180 seconds) videos on a topic. Another is the two 4:00 (four minute) "Stretch Break" videos for Magic & Meaning Conference. An ongoing project is earning Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) software to play with turning ideas into prototypes.

Exercise & Nutrition

Performing in any environment is more than standing or sitting and presenting your act. I usually perform on on an outdoor dirt stage, for 10-12 hours daily during a weekend, plus traveling and setting up, taking down, and packing the stage environment. Every part of that is very hard and taxing physical work. Being in shape to do that is a lifestyle decision revolving around stretching, eating, exercise, and recovery.

Stretching Lifestyle

Mobility and flexibility can be integrated into an exercise routine or stand as a separate aspect. Exercise often is thought of "producing sweat" while stretching does not necessary follow that same philosophy.

Grace and Movement

Getting into shape is an approach while moving around is an application. Although I can't control what shape you are in, I can influence how you move and look.

Voice and Breathing

I'm a voice guy; my training, experience, and inclination is vocal. I love to talk to myself, feeling my body produce understandable sounds, and love listening to the different voices in my head. Therefore I tend to learn as much as possible about "voice work". (Singing and voice work are two prongs of different approaches using the same foundational handle.) Since speaking is vocal and a specialized but integral part of communications those interest merge.

Theatrical (theory & practice)

Story and "Storytelling"

Routines -- thoughts and details

I assume you know something about performance magic or you would not have fallen this far into the rabbit hole. This segment is the open door for the "guarded empty safe" -- I'll password stuff I really don't want just anyone reading.
